Initial Development


The game was initially going to be very different to what it became.

Originally, I had intended for it to have a story and to make the player choose what gadgets and weapons they brought on missions (Image 1). The player would have started out on their ship "The Nave" where they would watch a briefing video which would introduce the player to Rae Gunn who was a wanted war criminal because of a massacre on the planet of Lae-Zaer. It would be the player's mission to find and kill Rae Gunn. The player would then be given the option of choosing two weapons and 2 gadgets to use on their mission. The player would then have to fight their way through Rae Gunn's private army of drones and turrets. Upon finding Rae Gunn, he would raise the shield around his stolen estate and the player would need to destroy the shield generators (Image 2) Once the shield generator was destroyed, Rae Gunn would then run away quickly to suit up and a boss battle would ensure.

Unfortunately, that was far too big for a WebGL build and the frame rate made the main mission unplayable which resulted in me having to entirely transform the game into a significantly smaller, arena style game where the player must simply kill all the enemies in the area(Image 3). I managed to include all the same game-play mechanics such as health stations, multiple gadgets, multiple weapons, multiple enemy types, doors that could open and close automatically but due to time constraints I had to cut mechanics such as speech and objectives.
